ADT Security rebate gift cards feel scammy

Does the $100 or $200 rebate on ADT Security seem like a compelling offer?  It did to me, until I tried to use one of the cards. 

It wouldn't go through for its $100 face value, so we tried again. No luck. So we tried it for $50 and it went through WITH A $10 TRANSACTION FEE.  

So now I have $40 on the card, which is actually $30 because they'll charge me another $10 transaction fee. 

What a disappointing scheme.
